How do I know if a Kwikstage ledger will fit my existing standards?
Check the complete end connection, not just the ledger length. The wedge, fixed end fitting, and V-pressing on the standard need to match correctly. For replacement orders, send us photos and dimensions of your existing ledger end and standard connection so the fit can be checked before production.
How can I tell when the ledger wedge is properly locked?
The ledger end should first sit correctly in the V-pressing on the standard, and the captive wedge should then be fully engaged. A ledger or transom should not be left in position with its wedge disengaged. Always follow the erection instructions for the specific Kwikstage system being used.
Does installing Kwikstage ledgers mean I do not need diagonal braces?
No. The ledger provides the horizontal connection between standards, but it should not be treated as a replacement for every type of scaffold bracing. The Kwikstage node design can remove the need for some transverse bracing, while longitudinal or façade bracing may still be required according to the scaffold configuration and design.
What is the difference between a Kwikstage ledger and a transom?
Both are horizontal members, but they normally run in different directions. Ledgers connect standards along the length of the scaffold and establish the bay spacing, while transoms run across the scaffold and form the working-platform width. The correct component should be selected according to the scaffold layout rather than simply by choosing a similar length.
Can a Kwikstage ledger be used as a scaffold guardrail?
A ledger can form part of the guardrail arrangement when it is installed in the correct position and both ends are securely connected. However, the ledger alone does not automatically provide complete edge protection. The full guardrail, intermediate rail, toe board, and platform arrangement still needs to meet the applicable scaffold requirements.
What should I check when buying Kwikstage ledgers for an existing rental fleet?
Besides the required bay length, check the ledger-end profile, wedge shape and size, V-pressing connection, tube specification, and the dimensions of the existing standards. A sample, drawing, or clear close-up photos of the old components are useful when you need new ledgers to match an existing scaffold inventory.
